Tools For Shed Removal

  • Sawzall
  • Extension Cord(s)
  • Extra Blades (Our preferred choice is Diablo carbide blades 12in)
  • Safety Glasses
  • Gloves
  • Crowbar
  • Drill
  • Pliers
  • Snips
  • Voltage Tester (If lights/power outlets are present)
  • Sledge Hammer
  • Shovel
  • Rake
  • Magnet (For cleanup of nails and screws)

Step 1: Game plan and Prep Work

Now that you have all the tools for the job, lets figure out where to start. First, we will need to assess the shed for safety. Are the floors, walls, and walls rotten or soft? If so, the best way to approach this would be to use a machine such as a skid steer or excavator. Your local Home Depot can provide you with a rental if you choose to go that route. Expect to pay around $300-$450 for a 24hr rental. If your shed is solid and does not pose a risk of falling on you while inside then our next step would be to turn off the power if your shed has  any electrical components. If you have any outlets or lights, you will need to turn them off at the breaker inside your house. Always double check with your voltage tester to ensure it is 100% safe before doing any electrical work!

Step 2: Remove Your Junk

Its always easier to work in a clutter free environment. Go ahead and remove all your junk and other loose items and get them out of the way for now. Also, remove all shelves and use your drill to remove the door(s).

Step 3: Weakening The Structure

You can either use your sledgehammer or sawzall for this step, whatever seems to work best for your situation. We will start to knock down the walls, but leave the framing in place for support. From the inside of the shed, knock out the siding of the shed, separating it from the framing. Depending on the size of your shed and weight of your roof, you will need to knock 2 walls out that are parallel to each other. For example, if you knock down the front walls, then you will knock down the back walls next. Vice versa, if you knock down the left side walls, then you will knock down the right side walls after. This gives the structure enough stability to stay up and not collapse while you are inside or nearby.

Step 4: Timberrrr!

Now that you have 2 walls knocked down that is usually enough for the sheds stability to be ready to give out. Tie some rope or ratchet straps to the top of the side that your have knocked out and pull it right down to the ground.

Step 5: Cut It Up!

Once you have the shed down on the ground, cutting it up is easy! Take your sawzall and cut the shed into manageable pieces.

Step 6: Clean Up!

Once you have the whole shed demolished and cut up, you decide how you would like to dispose of the debris. You can hire a junk removal company to haul away all the heavy debris or you can rent a dumpster and load your shed debris into that. Typically a 20YD dumpster is ideal for a shed removal project, but sheds comes in all sizes, so give a call to your local dumpster rental company and they should be able to assist you with finding the perfect size dumpster for your shed removal project.

  1. Have a large expensive swing set with a shed mounted on top. We need it to be disassembled ad delivered to a new address less than 5 miles away.

The shed is mounted in with lag bolts and can be detached but picked up and lowered on a trailer or truck for delivery.
